The Utility Systems & Solutions business in Siemens’ Electrification & Automation business unit oversees the expansion and advancement of EA's Utility and Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) markets. Within its comprehensive product portfolio, one finds an array of offerings, such as medium voltage switchgear (AIS & GIS), Outdoor Circuit Breakers, MV Control, Power Equipment Centers, Overhead distribution products, low voltage motor control centers, photovoltaic (PV) Inverters, and supplementary MV and LV products. These elements are consistently integrated into full-fledged electrical packaged solutions deployed in substations, power plants, and renewable energy power generation projects.

We are looking for a Sr Sales & Order Engineer . This position will be based in Wendell, NC.

The Sales & Order Engineer delivers expert engineering services with minimal guidance, adeptly interpreting customer drawings and specifications for manufacturing or related products. This role also actively collaborates with the Sales & Business Development teams during project negotiations. The SOE excels at deciphering project plans, one-lines, three-lines, schematics, and specifications to configure systems, offer technical support, and craft compelling commercial proposals. Moreover, the SOE extends invaluable post-order engineering assistance, ensuring seamless integration of the product into the customer's system and facilitating the commissioning process.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • interpretation of project plans and specifications, product application, configuration of product, technical support, proposal preparation, lead time information, review of project terms and conditions and pricing authority managed to price bands as determined by manager.

  • provide professional engineering services with minimal direction to interpret customer drawings and specifications for manufacturing or related product.

  • review customer needs and specifications to determine the minimum bill of material, most competitive price level, and shipment cycle within the market segment pertaining to each specific negotiation.

  • interact with sales force and customers on job specific details such as on-board approvals and witness tests, as well as design circuits to meet application requirements.

  • create engineering documentation for drafting, procurement, and manufacturing.

  • provide coordination for technical guidance to production personnel as appropriate; support product marketing and provide negotiation and application support for field sales and Business Development.

  • provide engineering functions in support of product marketing, manufacturing, and sales in line with company and product line objectives.

  • serve as primary division contact for customers as technical liaison in all aspects of product application, performance, and compliance to specifications and solutions to complex customer problems.

  • review and analyze product configurations and components, design circuits, perform engineering calculations, and provide input to other departments including drafting, purchasing, and manufacturing personnel.

  • participate in company activities such as product design, market and product improvements, productivity, quality, and safety improvement.

  • recommend modifications to bill of material to meet customer specification and improve Siemens’ competitive position as needed.

  • facilitation of order entry Front-End personnel; order and price reconciliation and other customer requested functions as required to obtain profitable sales growth.

  • provide pre- and post-sales support for Overhead & other Utility products as needed.

  • provide technical explanations, demonstration, and training of products to customers and may include field engineering, testing support, troubleshooting etc.

  • assist in-house engineering and marketing personal in developing concepts for new products or modification of existing devices and contribute to product launch requirements.

  • Will include up to 20% travel.

You’ll win us over by having the following qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or at least 5+ years of direct overhead Utility product field experience.

  • Proven experience in a similar role, with a focus on recloser equipment or overhead and distribution networks.

  • Strong background in protection systems, control systems, SCADA, and communications protocols.

  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to provide effective and timely solutions to technical issues.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills for training and customer interactions.

  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively.

  • Willingness to travel occasionally for on-site support and training.

  • Strong technical skills and proficiency with engineering design software for 2-D drawings and 3-D Modeling (e.g., CAD/CAM, SolidWorks,

  • The pay range for this position is $88,340 - $151,440 and the annual incentive target is 10% of the base salary. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications and premium geographic location.
