Siemens Mobility US is looking for aspiring engineers to come aboard for a long internship (several months) journey where they will be exposed to “behind the scenes” in making the rail transit world go round.

As our Rolling Stock Project Intern you will report to the Project Director and will have an opportunity to work with Project Managers on our Trainset project to supply rail vehicles for a major US Transit operator. You will interact with different departments and with suppliers and at other Siemens locations in North America. This includes autonomously working with our project team on small work packages in the project. This is a hands-on experience, and you would be involved in activities in direct connection with design and manufacturing or rail vehicles.

A little bit about us:

Siemens Mobility provides efficient and coordinated transportation of people and goods by rail – including rolling stock, rail automation, rail electrification, and service. We design and manufacture across the entire spectrum of rolling stock, including commuter and regional passenger trains, light rail and streetcars, metros, locomotives, passenger coaches, and high-speed trainsets. Cities and Railroads also rely on us to provide traction-power substations and electricity transmission, as well as signaling and control technology for freight and passenger rail and transit systems.

Our Rolling Stock team works on delivering product offerings such as light rail vehicles, electric locomotives, diesel-electric locomotives, and passenger coaches. Our operations team ensures that departments like employee health & safety, supply chain management, logistics, car shell welding, bogie fabrication and assembly, electrical subassembly, gluing, painting, and vehicle final assembly run smoothly.

Responsibilities:

The candidate will participate in internal and external meetings for the projects, work with our Project Managers and Engineers on design improvements, technical documentation, monitor and document Coach production progress, help track and guide materials supply to the production floor, write field modifications and test procedures, support implementation and supply of materials for design changes. Depending on your background and previous experience, ownership of a sub project from start to finish is also possible.

We are looking for someone who:

• is highly motivated,

• enjoys working on customized technical solutions and complex systems,

• has an entrepreneurial and growth mindset,

• is a team player,

• can work autonomously,

• is at least a Senior in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or in Project Management,

• has knowledge of Microsoft office programs and CAD programs,

• has previous project experience (e.g. internships, student projects)

• can balance studies and work

Basic Qualifications:

• Must be pursuing a bachelor’s or advanced degree in Engineering, Project Management or related field from an accredited college or university, with at least 2 years completed to date.

• Legal authorization to work in the US is required.

• Must reside or go to school near internship location.

• Desire to work in a team environment and a hands-on approach.

• Preferred Qualifications:

• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0

• Previous internship experience or relevant school projects

• Strong communication skills – verbal and written (English)
